The main goal of our research is to understand how sex steroid hormones modulate cognition and emotion across the lifespan in primates. We investigate this issue in both humans and rhesus monkeys, a species which shares many characteristics with humans in terms of brain organization, cognitive ability and reproductive endocrinology. Both species participate in noninvasive studies aimed at examining the relationships between gonadal hormones and cognitive performance, motor function and emotional processing. Our current studies investigate the effects of testosterone on behavior in young and older adult males.
